The Lowdown on How Deadlines Can REALLY Feel

Bad. Deadlines can feel bad.

LOL!

I had drafted a long post detailing all the ins and outs of my deadline experiences over the past seven months. I still wish I could share it, because I think it's the kind of thing that's very helpful to other writers.

But I'm going to have to wait until I can teach it in a class.

For now, I'll just say, friends, that I am overjoyed to be only two chapters from the end of my third and last novel in this contract, the end of the Saddler's Legacy series that has occupied my intellectual life for the last five years.

And I'll look forward to that class, fellow writers, when I'll give you the real low-down on deadlines and life balance.

Sounds like a great class, Rosslyn, one I'd be eager to take. I wish you all the best as you reach The End.

I hope I'm there when you teach that class :)

I look at books in a whole new light now. The amount of work that goes into each and every one is incredible. Congrats on nearing the finish line!

I can so relate. I'm a slow writer, and I think the stress of meeting deadlines was the biggest surprise for me when I became published.

Sounds like a great class idea, Rosslyn! I'm living vicariously through my critique partner as she barrels toward a big deadline. Congratulations on being close to the finish!

I'd be curious to see what direction your writing takes after the trilogy. BTW, I started reading your ms and I'm enjoying it! :-)

Rosslyn,
Whew! You're almost there and I've still got to pound out most of book 3 and have it ready to turn in by April 1st. I think I might have a few things to contribute to that class.:)Be proud of what you've done. Awesome!

You just don't know how much it means for you all to come say hello! SUCH an isolating time, the months before a tight deadline. I love you all and thank you for remembering me, holed up here in my almost-finished cave. I'll be out soon! And Jill--ha ha! I do think you would have something to contribute. Sounds like you would too, Julie--in fact, quite a few writers I know would. I say we all get together and offer a big deadline panel at ACFW. :-)

Lorena - thanks! I'm curious about its direction after the trilogy too. :-) It has been great to tell this story, which is coming out like a true generational saga over the course of the three books, but it will be so much fun to get to do something new.
