I've been wondering about novels and timing.
Is this a busy time for you? Is summer slower and easier on your schedule, or even more packed than the school year?
Perhaps it doesn't make a difference, if you don't have school-aged children, though summer vacations are always nice. :-)
The reason I ask is because I was talking with someone about plans for a publicity effort for my novel. We both speculated that September might be better than August, because of that pre-semester rush that happens in the first two weeks of August.
So what I would love to know from you is:
Do you find that you read more at one time of year than another? Are there certain months in which you tend to be too busy to read?

This is changing for me since I'll be staying home this year instead of working. But typically, I read more in the summer b/c I'm not working. However, I'm willing to bet I'll start reading more in the winter, because it's....well, winter.
I read a lot more in the summer, only because my husband is home (he's a teacher) and I can take my eyes off the kiddos to put them on a book. :) But now that my To Be Read pile is as high as a mountain, I imagine I'll trade TV time for reading time, even when school starts back.
Katie - I thought of you when I asked, because I know how it is for teachers!
Jennifer - Very interesting--the opposite of Katie's former teaching situation because your husband is the teacher. And I also hadn't thought about the impact of TV when the new shows start.
Summer seems to be my best time. I take my books to the pool and gym and catch up on my reading there. Come fall, I'm back in work mode and less likely to dive in as I do in summertime days.
About the only month I'm too busy to read is December. But on the other hand, I do a lot of book buying in December because I love giving books as gifts.
I guess it's a toss-up.
Here are my thoughts:
Sept. seems to be a back to work month. Focus is back. Vacations are over. Seems like a better time to promote.
Just my cent.
Getting excited for the word to spread about your books!

I agree that September is better than August. My summer has been so busy, I barely have any time to read or write or blog or...you get the idea. :) Then again, you could catch summer vacationers in August maybe?
I don't have a specific time of year that is better for reading. It's something I have to squeeze in all the time. I do the bulk of my book-buying at Christmas, though. Good luck!
I read the year through.
I like to read all year long. I finish one book and start the next. However, sometimes life gets busy, and I have to use my reading time for other things.
I read constantly, but most in the rainy fall days and blustery winter days, when I can curl up by my fireplace. (Or right now, when I am curled up with a newborn, but I guess that is an exception. :) The only time I don't do much reading is right--like, the week--before Christmas, because I'm so busy.
All this talk of reading environments and bookbuying is making me miss reading. But soon, my pets, soon! (That's me talking to my TBR pile.) As soon as I finish this edit--due August 8th--I will reward myself with a couple of books!
This is the second blog I've come across today with this question. For me, definitely more reading in the fall/winter months. Just easier with the kids in school.
As a high school English teacher with two preschool children at home, I find my reading season generally begins sometime after 11 each night, making for a frustratingly short growing season. But at least there is growth!
